Education is of no use if it does not develop the individual and thus our nation. It is important for the overall development of an individual and this is where Mission Education plays its best part. Swami Vivekananda says “Education which does not bring out strength of character, a spirit of philanthropy, and the courage of a lion— is it worth of the name. The mission education programme has been making efforts to bring the hardest to reach children, many of whom had never attended a School before, under the fold of education.
The irst impression of such children is that they appear to be much uncivilized. They lack civic sense and are generally ill behaved. Further, their sense of hygiene and cleanliness is very poor. It is also under this program that the privileged students are motivated to donate stationery for the underprivileged children, who have dif iculty or may not bear the expanses of educational resources. Doing this the privileged students are made to experience two things: First they understand that there is another section of society which is facing dif iculty in getting even those resources which are every easily available to them. Second, on donating those stationery items a habit of donation is getting imbibed in them.
The inclusion of nutrition support within the programme has highly encouraged parents to send their children regularly to school, resulting in 100% attendance at most of the Mission Education centers and a marked decline in the number of dropouts. For the parents who have to struggle hard every day to provide two square meals to the children, the provisions of nutritious food are incentive enough to send their kids to school. Continuous and quality education is necessary to ensure that the children actually become aware, informed and able. This need is at the core of the Mission Education campaign. Putting children into school is not enough; they must get sustained support to continue their education. Otherwise, there is a high probability that these children will drop out and go back to their old lives.
Dainyam Aaradhyam started a centre at Farukhabad & Hardoi for educating children. Also, giving education free of cost to down trodden children of Primary School at Chandpur Village at Farukhabad.
Education is both the means as well as the end to a better life: the means because it empowers an individual to earn his/her livelihood and the end because it increases one’s awareness on a range of issues – from healthcare to appropriate social behaviour to understanding one’s rights – and in the process help him/her evolve as a better citizen. Education is the most effective tool which helps children build a strong foundation; enabling them to free themselves from the vicious cycle of ignorance, poverty and disease.
